Once you’ve been migrated to OneDrive, you may notice that your recent items menu in Outlook has some slightly different icons in the list. Note the cloud icon and the cmgerp-my.sharepoint.com location listed. If you attach this file to an email, you’re attaching a file that directly lives in your OneDrive.

Once I choose my document, you’ll notice that it says “Recipients can edit”. This is the default behavior and cannot be changed at this time. If you’d like the user to be able to modify the document, leave it as is. This means that any changes the recipient makes to your document will be reflected in your OneDrive copy. You are sharing the document with edit rights.

However, you have two other choices. Click the little arrow next to the file in order to get additional options.

1. 1.If you go to Change Permissions, you can toggle the permission to “Recipients can View”. This still shares the file, but in read-only mode. If you make changes, the recipient will see those changes reflected.

2. 2. You can also use the “Attach as Copy” option. This creates a copy of the document that has no ties to your OneDrive version.

This is the look of the attachment after it’s been changed to View Only mode.
